Training Updates in the Region Jul-Sep 2005
God is doing great things in Papua New Guinea.
Beth, a Filipina, took the Institute training in the Philippines last 2002. She and
her husband went to Papua New Guinea to serve the Lord. She has started Good
News Club® (GNC™) in 21 villages. God worked miracles to open the door for
her to get into the villages. Her husband, Romeo went in to make contact as a
representative of the cannery, where he is the Chaplain. (It is very difficult for the
villages to be open to other churches or organizations). With
that, Beth could teach GNC, conduct Bible studies, cooking
classes, etc., for the women as well as the men. They have
been reaching 1,500 children in GNC. One of the ladies now
helping her received the Lord as she listened to Beth counsel
a child with the Wordless Book. Beth also trained two young
ladies to help in the Clubs. What joy to see the children and
their excitement as they sing "Good News, Good News,
Christ died for me"!
Beth and Romeo will be leaving, but God
is preparing another Filipino Pastor and his wife to come in
and continue the ministry.

Meanwhile, there were
Preschool courses in Hong Kong and Korea last
March and April respectively. The students not only
studied and worked on classroom assignments, but
actually taught two children's classes during the
course. Praise the Lord for all the preschoolers who
are now God's children as they responded to the
invitation and were counseled for salvation.
It was a very hot week in Pontianak last April, (being right on the equator) as we did a Teaching Children
Effectively™ (TCE™) Level 1. Even though it was so hot, the students were very attentive. When the students gave testimonies on the last day, they shared how God was challenging them to reach the children. How encouraging to supervise five instructors and to see them developing in their teaching skills.
Vanuatu is a string of islands, many inhabited and all in need of
knowing the Lord. Margaret Worek (now with the Lord) had a burden that
children in these islands have opportunity to know Jesus, and for teachers to
be trained. She attended the CEF Institute in the Solomon Islands several years
ago. She took the Instructor Of Teacbers (IOT) 1 two years later. Following
that, a TCE 1 was held in Vanuatu last 2000. The first course was held in
Santo, then Port Vila. Margaret also wanted preschool teachers to be trained,
and the first preschool course was held in Sola. Many teachers attended.
Margaret continued teaching and attended IOT 2 in New Zealand.
We began TCE 2 in Vanuatu and right after the course in New
Zealand, Margaret found out she had cancer. She trusted God
for His healing, and in November 2004, she was completely
healed as she went home to heaven.
In April, I went to visit and found out that one of Margaret's
dreams had been fulfilled. A two-story block building had been
constructed for the CEF office, Teacher Training and rooms for
students to come and stay. There is still a lot of finish up work
to be done but while I was there, we had the first class at
Emmanuel (that is what Margaret wanted the center called).
Twenty people faithfully came, many teenagers as well as adults including George, Margaret's
husband. Joseph, a church worker, is helping him in the office to be sure that teachers in other
islands are receiving materials and getting help to keep reaching the children. Praise the Lord,
Margaret's vision lives on!
Tonga was the setting for
another TCE 1 last April, as Thess
Llorente is diligently working on
developing Instructors in the country.
There are many challenges, but what
opportunities to see God at work. The
staff is being equipped to work along
with Thess, so that more children can be
reached. We took the students to teach
in the school and one of them came
back the following day sharing how she
had asked some women to pray for her
to be able to start a GNC. They said
"teach our children, can you start
tomorrow?" God is at work - Praise His
Name!
